TECNA at the Petrochemical Plant of Rio de Janeiro: PROJECT MARICA

Study: At the facilities of the Rio de Janeiro Petrochemical Complex (COMPERJ), the gas and condensates from the Pre-salt Pole of the Santos Basin are expected to be delivered through the Maricá-COMPERJ gas pipeline.

Objective: To analyze the axial tensions that could be generated on the fingers before the arrival of the slug.For this, the phenomenon was described physically and then the different possibilities of generating pressure differences that gave rise to the mentioned tensions were studied.

Studies of::

  • Analysis of pressure waves.
  • Analysis of the slug runoff inside the finger.
  • Viscous cutting stresses on the wall.
  • Effect of acceleration of the liquid.

Conclusion
We have analyzed in this report the different causes that could generate an axial effort on the fingers of the slug catcher of Project Maricá before the entrance of the postulated liquid pocket. It was found that none of them can generate significant effort. This is mainly due to the liquid entering at a relatively low velocity, as the passage area from the conveying conduit is expanded to the 12 fingers in a conduit that is pressurized. The maximum values ??calculated are of the order of 100 kg, depending on the symmetry in the distribution of the flow.
